Wing Shooting
Argentina offers unmatched wingshooting experiences. High-volume doves fly year-round with non-stop action that allows you to choose your shots. Pigeon shoots are from late April through mid-June. They decoy like ducks over the peanut fields of San Luis and Santiago del Estero. Duck and mixed bag season starts May 1 and ends in mid-August. There are thirteen species of native ducks and every shoot holds the potential for half of them. Shooters wanting more variety can opt for mixed bag shoots North of Buenos Aires. Depending on the lodge you can shoot 3-4 species. Ducks, doves, pigeons and perdiz. All of the duck and mixed bag shoots are very relaxed with morning and evening shoots. The outfitters will have an asado in the field if the weather is nice, followed by a siesta in the shade. If the drives are short, they will have lunch at the lodge. Duck shoots in BA Province to the South of Buenos Aires are known for great ducks and some good doves are available if you want to do something different in the afternoon. The mixed bag shoots are North of Buenos Aires and generally a little warmer weather as the climate and environment are more sub-tropical with the mighty Parana River flowing the entire length of the Eastern border.
Fly Fishing
Argentina offers fly fishermen endless opportunities to explore Patagonia (Rainbow and Brown Trout), Tierra del Fuego (Sea Run Bown Trout) and the North Eastern rivers and clear water marshes for the amazing Golden Dorado. These trips are easily combined with dove shooting from September through April. In Patagonia, the Trout fishing looks and feels like Montana a hundred years ago: clear rivers, wild Rainbow and Brown Trout, and very few anglers on the water. Most lodges only take 8-12 anglers per week and the property is well managed to keep the rivers from being over fished. The options are endless but we usually focus on 3-4 different lodges depending on when you want to go and lodge availability. You can wade or float depending on the different rivers. Some rivers are too deep to wade and you’ll be floating in western style drift boats, other rivers you will be casting to rising fish. The guides we use are exceptional teachers and can teach beginners as well as expert. They all speak English and have worked for the lodges between 10 and 30 plus years. The nights are cool with temperatures the 40s while days top out around 80. Further south, Jurassic Lake holds Rainbows that average eight to ten pounds and up to twenty pounds. The average fish are better than most angler’s personal best.
Golden Dorado are best when the weather is hot (September through April), we have multiple options from land-based lodges to a mothership. The fight these fish display is unbelievable and they are a great challenge to land once they’re hooked.
Big Game Hunting
Few sounds in hunting match a Red Stag roaring across the valleys. Stalking Red Stag on foot among the explosion of colors on the mountain sides is an amazing experience.
The roar happens in, March and April. As Fall settles over Patagonia, cool nights and bright days that feel like Montana in October. You will be hunting private ranches by horseback or 4×4 glassing the hill sides and valleys, and stalking them on foot. Accommodations run from rustic, comfortable cabins to luxury lodges on sprawling ranches. The best outfitters take only six to eight bulls a season. These hunts are 1×1 and the experiences are exceptional. Once you are done with the Stag hunt you can try for a boar or fly fish on the rivers that run through the ranches.
